I’ve been having wireless troubles with my laptop for some time now, so this evening I decided to have another go at playing What the Fuck Else Can I Try with This Thing. Unfortunately, my golden cicada of a laptop was still playing How Stubborn can I be Before he Goes Batshit (and throws me out of a second floor window). And my laptop is better at that game than I am.
Though this time I have actually discovered what the bloody fuck the problem may well be and as it turns out, it’s a manufacturing fault but not quite in the way you might think is. It so happens that the wireless card manufacturer changed about half way through production of the series thus causing all kinds of fucked up-ness with driver support. Oh, and also because HP are dicks but that’s always a given. Not that it matters since I can’t even get the thing to work let alone worry about the fact that they’re not releasing drivers that support WPA connections anyway. So yes, time for another jaunt down to the shop where I was told that if I could speak Cantonese, the owner could get me a job.

I keep wondering if you could peel the little chip stickery thing off the side of one cartridge and use it on a non-HP branded one. Then again, can you even get non-HP substitutes? I know Lexmark apparently don’t have substitutes either or at least they’re not legal in the UK as far as I know.
And now I’m confusing myself because I’m sure you can get bubblejet cartridge substitutes but it might be the three-in-one printers that are fucked. Urk, I should just stick with knock-off office laser printers really.

um, no, peeling off the chip will in fact fuxor it. However, here at least, you can get things like Staples nonHP-branded ones in stores quite easily, for a small discount. Same goes for other manufacturers too. And if you're really adventurous, you can get those "do it yourself" ink refill kits... We've had fair success with them, refilling Canon cartridges.

I’ve heard dubious things about those ink refill kits though I’ve never actually tried them, just watched as a fool of my acquaintance proceeded to fux0r things quite royally.

I’ve seen non-HP cartridges but the ones I’ve been looking for at the moment (HP Officejet G55 cartridges) don’t seem to be about so much. That and I’m getting tired of having to search for anything these days. I had to order a replacement drum for an end of range office laser printer recently and between trying to find a reasonably priced part and being heckled to get it quickly, my brain seems to have practically shut down over the matter.
