Onmyōdō

“Alright, so if I’m to believe that his mother was a fox how exactly did that happen?”
Naoji blinks.
“Come on, dear, explain that. It’s bestiality after all.”
“It wasn’t- Lui, please don’t be flippant.”
“I’m not but I’m a geneticist and I can tell you that a human-fox hybrid simply wouldn’t work.”
“Lui… that’s not the point of the story at all.”
Disgruntled noises from behind Ludwig’s teacup are illustrative enough of what he thinks of that.

Sighing faintly, Naoji decides that now may not be entirely the right time to educate Ludwig about the business of real onmyōdō.

They’re of course talking about Abe no Seimei and in particular the legends surrounding him.

Oh I love you a little more for this. XD Especially since I do want to go into genetics, so this literal approach to the legends is just.... so Lui....

Genetics is always a fun field so I heartily commend your choice. And it fits Ludwig’s pedantry wonderfully too. Glad you liked this.

This is well... made of instant win, I think. Although one really has to wonder what they will make of all the ancient Greek myths? Zeus was very creative after all...

Ah, but as far as Greek myth goes Ludwig may well claim that he too sprung fully formed and armoured from the mind of a god. Though depending on version he may well claim that said ruling god was his mother.

Then his mother would have to be either Artemis or Athene, although that then leaves the question of who exactly his father is anyway, because both of them aren't exactly well known about their romantic relationships anyway apart from Orion, and that didn't end particularly well.
The hunting thing might fit well with his mother being Artemis, though.

Or maybe I'm simply taking this way too far.

I shouldn’t wonder that Ludwig would just do away with gender matters entirely and decided that he was Pallas Athene and that his mother was Zeus, reinterpreting Zeus’ many conquests as the slew of men who fell in love with his mother before she found his father. In which case Naoji becomes a heroic Greek warrior who’s won the heart of a goddess from which point on Ludwig starts inventing his own mythology to add to the tale.

I’m glad you liked it since it was a quick off the cuff piece of writing. There seems to be nothing like feeling vaguely fluish and grumpy to put me in a Ludwig sort of mood for writing.

I’m not at all certain that a lack of tea really aids anything really though would something like camomile or fennel before bed be a plausible solution? For convenience Whittard’s (which I’m sure much have branches in the US) do a lovely Turkish Apple (http://www.whittard.co.uk/ProductDetails.aspx?pid=103143&cid=it2010&language=en-GB) instant tea which really is wonderful too. And if fennel is a little too flat I’m currently experimenting with adding star anise and cardamom seeds to the mix to see what that produces and it seems to change the flavour quite admirably.
