Save your own damn self: Anthy in the coffin

In a bout of Christmas morning insomnia and despite the fact that I need to be officially awake and functional in a few hours the thought struck me that while I’ve talked about how Dios’ transformation into Akio is understandable and the series itself examines Utena’s motivations, I’ve never yet touched upon the idea of Anthy. Mostly because up until now, just as with Dios/Akio, I didn’t really have much of a grasp on who she was and how she functioned other than as an accessory to Utena’s story.
