Comfortable travel

While I never like getting out of bed in time, what I do enjoy is early mornings train journeys, in the peace and isolation of a 1st class carriage. With the frequency of journeys that I'm making these days, and especially the timing for the return, it's far less hassle to just travel 1st rather than try to save a bit and squeeze myself in between everybody else trying to get a seat on the way home. I've had to stand for the duration of a half hour journey before, and while that's not the longest time, it's just that little bit too much after a long day out. So I've no intention of repeating the experience with my current journey, which is considerably longer. The fact that the 1st class carriage is more or less empty in the mornings when I travel is also a bonus. It's also significantly easier to justify eating breakfast or, as I did today, dinner, on the train if it's already included in the price of my ticket. I do rather like my alone time, even if it's simply a case of not seeing people adjacent or hearing them talking around me. Which is why I'm traveling Business Class in both directions on my annual holiday this year. Business Class on the way back is essential because it's an overnight flight and the flat beds are about the only way I'd actually be able to sleep on the flight. And the arrivals lounge is always handy to grab breakfast and, possibly, a shower on the way in. I did actually debate flying out Economy Plus but since I had the airmiles it made sense to make use of them. I did get laughed at by a friend for deciding on Business Class based entirely on the fact that I don't like sitting next to people, and mentioning that while some First Class flights were available, I didn't consider them, because they were weekend flights and I don’t like to travel on the weekend. But, then again, these are the perks of being grown up to a certain degree: I get to blow my money on things like 1st class travel or a nice flight bag and debate whether I want port or eiswine from Fortnum's.
