Requiem for a Dream was definitely unsettling. It deliberately lacked the drama and almost adventure aspect of something like Trainspotting or even plenty of novels about drug use. That’s quite an accomplishment considering that the entire route of drug use is usually a journey so it’s easy to fall into that ‘hero’s journal’ narrative style with it.
