Crossposting issues

Having started the move to Dreamwidth I’ve also recently picked up an AO3 account which seems the perfect place to start uploading the few live-action media based pieces I’ve been writing of late. Tying in with the fact that I’m uploading my manga-based fanfiction to Sunsets and that I need to cultivate the barebones site I have for original pieces as well these days that leaves me with little writing that really only has LJ as a venue. I’m also finding that I have less of an urge to post about things at the moment and while that may change in the future right now while an idea will grab me it won’t retain so much of a hold over me that I really feel the need to post anything sensible about it.
I have been on LJ for quite a while now, about eight years, and in that time what I’ve posted about has changed fairly drastically but up until now there’s still been that urge to post, a drive to provide commentary on a variety of topics. I paid for a permanent account to that end after all but at the current time I just don’t feel like making much use of it. It took the move to make my Dreamwidth account more active to make me realise it. By way of examples, after complaining about a loss of over two hundred icon slots and being forced to reduce my count to fifteen I’m actually finding that I’m having trouble finding fifteen icons that I could be bothered to use and that reduction is really making me think about what I can and can’t be bothered to write about.
With those thoughts in mind it seems a trifle excessive to maintain crossposting to LJ. It’s not as if my LJ is going anywhere since it’s a permanent account but there’s very little that I feel is necessary for me to add to it. Thus I’m toying with the idea of making my personal friends locked posts entirely on Dreamwidth now and refraining from crossposting all but the most interesting things or banal things that I have to say to LJ for the moment. I do have people friended on LJ who I’d very much like to keep up with and who on a point of principle I’d like to leave my personal posts available to and to that end I believe that Dreamwidth’s openID system will serve admirably should they still be interested in reading my occasionally neurotic, occasionally silly locked posts about a variety of things. As far as I’ve looked into the matter all that’s required is that they comment using openID on a Dreamwidth post and I allow them access so hopefully that should do the trick.
As for the fanfiction that’s still running as it were from origins on LJ, I may well change over to posting a batch of links every so often to archived pieces rather than posting as I go along. I do have plenty of half written pieces in my WIP folder after all as well as a handful of unwritten pieces that keep surfacing just when I’ve forgotten that I haven’t yet written them down.
