'Gay weddings' become law in UK (BBC News article.)
Technically they’re calling them ‘civil partnerships’ instead of weddings but its all good.
Of course the Catholic Church is
not best pleased over the matter because it allegedly
will undermine the institution of marriage, since marriage from that standpoint seems to be about procreation in the sense of quantity and not quality of childrearing if you’re going to be really odd about your motivations.
Also hurrah for
corporate business because
the opportunity to have a "pink wedding" almost exactly the same as a conventional one [is] opening up a whole new business market.
The dates from which civil partnerships can take place in the UK are the 19th December for Northern Ireland, 20th for Scotland and 21st for England and Wales. So that’s going to make a rather cheery run up to Christmas.
And it’s times like this when I remember why I like the fact that I have 'British Citizen' stamped on my passport. Things happen, laws get changed, the Catholic Church wanks on about it, and everybody ignores them.
Though the idea of marriage still scares me witless.
