There are days when he wonders, if it wouldn’t be better if everything did disintegrate.
If he did suddenly, irreversibly… break.
Would they like that? Isn’t it what they’ve been waiting for?
It might almost be worth it. To break apart their illusions. Destroy all their dreams.
Unstoppable, unpredictable. So far from common reasoning that they would never understand.
He could…

But he is distracted by cold assessing eyes. Because in that gaze there is a promise.
I will destroy you before you can fall.
And Orpherus certainly hopes, that were their roles reversed, he could promise Ludwig the same.

I’m glad it works. Though I’m always sure I should be worried that I seem to end up at my most profound when I’m quite rattled. ^_^;

As for the potential AU-ness, I was fairly convinced of the plausibility of it all but then for some reason only felt like writing a drabble so wasn’t sure I could make a convincing argument, so to speak. But it’s good that it works. ^_^
