Coming back to that 1002 people demographic of 2000, 91% didn’t actually know anything about the government’s five criteria for joining the euro.
91% didn’t know anything about the five criteria. 91%.

91%.

That’s almost reason enough to drink myself into a stupor or move to Norway! They might not like the EMU but at least they know about it.

Granted a lot of the Mori polls take place in one place, namely Edinburgh but my god, it’s Edinburgh! It’s full of over-privileged public school kiddies. What on earth is their excuse?

That's right up there with the 51% of canadians who currently think having a conservative minority gov't would be better than having a liberal minority. Yeah. Right.

Just for the entertainment value, mind. For all their evils, I still think the liberals are the only ones who might actually have a chance to *accomplish* anything sane, like that immigration act reform and gay marriage.

The Tories are fighting the election here on immigration it would seem because of course all the problems in this country are due to nasty immigrants and I don’t think that anyone’s even mentioned gay marriage because our public schoolboys all go to university to fuck each other on the sly. It’s all fine as long as you pretend that nothing’s wrong. Just like you can pretend that there are no homeless people in Norway if you walk past them really quickly outside Oslo station.

And on that overwhelmingly disgusted note, I shall take myself back off to my dissertation.

I’m beginning to suspect that people actually like having their personal freedoms taken away. As long as your benevolent dictator is controlling everything then it absolves you of any responsibility when thing start to go wrong.
Though for some reason everyone seems to forget that freedom in submission isn’t quite all that it’s cracked up to be.

Perhaps this is why so many people seem to have trouble taking responsibility for their own actions. God, that’s a depressing thought. I don’t even know why there was such outcry against Filmer’s "Patriarcha" now because it’s exactly what people seem to want, though of course, I forget, you mustn’t actually say it out loud.
