Silly Meine Liebe double drabble: Naming

Naming

Orpherus flinches as he rolls onto his side beneath the covers and immediately Eduard’s arms are around him, soothing, comforting.
“You really need to take better care of yourself.“
Orpherus mutters something indiscernible.
“Rest now…”
“Damn it, Ed. I’m not pregnant!”
They both freeze, silent for long moments.
“Orphe, did you just-“
“Shut up.”
Eduard buries his face in Orpherus’ hair, using affection to hide his laughter.
“Stop laughing at me.”
“I… not laughing…” Between evident efforts not to.
“Ed… suppose… suppose that… well, if I were a girl…”
Eduard’s humour dies in a strangled splutter.
“If I were a girl and we were married…”
“Err… yes?”
“Do you ever wonder what we might name our children?”
Eduard just manages to bite off the absolute denial on the tip of his tongue.
“I was thinking… that ‘Wilhelm’ would be a good name for a boy.”
Silence.
“Though I’ve always thought that ‘Ludwig’ was a nice name too.”
“You’d… want to name one of our children after Lui?”
“Not necessarily but it’s just… such a pretty name, don’t you think?”
“Pretty…”
“Yes.”
“Perhaps you should save it for one of the heroines in your… err, writing instead?”
Orpherus smirks in reply.

And now I shall go to bed before reality implodes or whatever the hell it was that appears to have bitten my elbow, bites me again.

Date: 2005-07-25 05:21 am (UTC)This actually stemmed from a variation of the same theme involving Naoji and Ludwig, so possibly it’s a good thing that one half of those partnerships aren’t female, otherwise there’d be a whole future generation of Strahl running round named Ludwig and/or Wilhelm, with the potential of an Ophelia thrown into the mix…
I don’t know about the given names being unpronounceable but can you imagine the effort it would take them to learn their entire family name? ^_~
