The morning after, Orpherus is particularly incoherent. Disyllabic responses are to be expected at best and after Orpherus has made several abortive attempts to sit up in bed, Ludwig gives in to the urge to prop a bare foot up against Orpherus’ back from where he sits beside the bed.
Ludwig has been awake for a good half hour at least and sips his tea slowly as he continues to prod at Orpherus with the flat of his foot, pushing him over a little further each time until he rolls over entirely.
From the other side of the bed comes a faint mutter and then Orpherus is very obviously snuggling up against Naoji in an attempt to go back to sleep. So Ludwig turns his attention back to his breakfast tray only to find that Eduard has already finished half, all without raising his eyes from a favoured text.
There are worse ways to spend a morning and potentially far worse companions for him to spend his days with. And at times like this it is absurdly simple to imagine that they will be ever young, ever faithful...
And there are, Ludwig reflects, certainly worse ways to spend his birthday.

According to the game stats Ludwig’s birthday is on the 12th but since it’s my birthday today I figured I may as well.
And yesterday, in preparation for annual celebrations, I had a dental appointment. Happy Birthday to me.
