From the match the literature challenge.
“Leisure Reading” and “Linguistics” for [livejournal.com profile] antyllus and “Lasting Sentiment” for the Großherzogin von Machiavelli (sometimes known as [livejournal.com profile] finferwen).

Challenge drabbles

Leisure Reading

Camus spends hours by himself quietly tending to the flowers or reading when inside. His brother is as proud of his studiousness as he is of Camus’ gentleness and is always ready with a word or two of praise for Camus’ diligent nature.

Camus accepts it all calmly, patiently acknowledges his brother’s smiles and kind words and resolves quite firmly to restrict his literary discussions to those he has with Ludwig or Orpherus. He’d like to discuss such things with his brother certainly but wouldn’t want such a kind soul to be understandably appalled at his choice of leisure reading.

Linguistics

“How are you this morning?” Ludwig’s tone is entirely too cheery for Naoji’s liking.
“Squamous.”
“Really? You don’t look to be covered in scales.”
“Rugose.” Naoji mutters into his breakfast irritatedly.
“No… you’re not that either.”
“Cyclopean.”
Ludwig sighs. “How about ‘eldritch’? You can be eldritch this morning if you like.”
Naoji appears to think about it before peeling several breakfast meats off his plate and depositing them on Ludwig’s.
“I really do wonder sometimes whether you read those books or just use them as some sort of makeshift dictionary.”

“What’s wrong with-“ Eduard begins.
“He’s feeling squamous, I believe.”

Lasting Sentiment

++++++++++

Naoji eyes the novel suspiciously when Ludwig picks it up again, frowns at its cover and mutters softly in Japanese.
“Is there something wrong, my dear?”
“It’s about feet isn’t it?”
Ludwig closes the book and blinks.
“It’s a whole novel about the prettiness of people’s feet.”
“Naoji…”
“I’ve read the first chapter and that’s all it talks about.” And with that he picks up his copy of some English novel and makes a show of ignoring Ludwig.

Ludwig considers arguing the matter but really it’s far easier to read a novel about troublesomeness in France when Naoji’s suitably occupied.

++++++++++

The first chapter of La Reine Margot does make quite a few mentions of feet so possibly Naoji’s foot paranoia might be ever so slightly justified.

"Leisure Reading" may also have something to do with the lot here.

You have just gone to further confirm my suspicions that Camus has about two pounds of hardcore porn, with cover titles like: "Roses and you." and "The Lilly within: A self-reflecting trip through gardening."

Ah, that's delightfully cheering. ^_^

Annoyed, dismissively prissy Naoji is a wonderful thing. The poor fellow. I'd probably be disturbed if my Significant Other decided he had a foot fetish. XP

Incidentally, which one of those did I get right? You may have told me but I'm damned if I can remember.

“He’s feeling squamous, I believe.”
That is priceless. But I suppose feeling squamous makes slightly more sense than feeling siliated or cuboidal. ~_^

You got the Ludwig one right and [livejournal.com profile] antyllus pegged both Camus and Naoji correctly. Nobody got the other two, alas though possibly the Orpherus one rather relied on that AU I wrote a while back with Orpherus go ing round organizing witch-burnings.

I’d be impressed if Naoji were feeling sillated, though possibly that’d be entirely in keeping with the Lovecraftian theme really.

And your icon; it wouldn’t happen to be the produce of that famous and on-going ‘wank’ that consists of some girl who thinks that she is Sailor Moon and other rabid insanities, would it? Though presumably the clip might be from SMLA a good portion of which I have copies of.

Having finally straggled back and read these, I'm kicking myself for not doing it earlier. The Naoji drabble especially has cheered up the entire morning, although I confess your particular brand of Camus is growing on me.

And I'm going to start telling people I'm feeling fulgurous today.

I suspect that Lovecraftian ideas get in on a lot of things half the time. Even the RPG I’ve been playing has me hunting down a cult who are trying to bring the Old Ones back.
In the interest of Camus there’s also this (http://imperial-artist.livejournal.com/293147.html) which is probably more about Orpherus’ issues again now that I think about it.
