A meme that I’m certain I did a while ago but was reminded of due to
abbie_chan.
Ask any of my characters a question and I'll reply in-character as them with an answer. Characters that I play in RPGs count, too. Feel free to ask them ANYTHING, regardless of whether you know them or not. Feel free to also ask them as your own character. They will respond accordingly.
With the added proviso that if you’re going to choose certain Meine Liebe characters, I have three quantum variants of Ludwig and Naoji and two Orpheri. Of course any of my original characters are fair game and perhaps also the Goddess of Discord too.
I need something to help me decide which WIP needs to be finished first after all.

Date: 2006-05-07 03:30 pm (UTC)Thank you for your missive. I’m afraid that I haven’t yet seen V for Vendetta since my Japanese companion insists that I read the comics first as he suspects me of being a Tory. That’s entirely speculation on his part of course.
From what I understand, the neat divide illustrated by both the comic and the film is centred round the question of which is worse; oppressive state actions or vigilante actions in retaliation? It’s actually a rather difficult question to answer really since there are any number of political philosophers who would argue that since the third estate is the people, then they have a right, a duty even to remove a corrupt government from power using any means possible. Of course everybody knows just how well that went in France.
So perhaps the issue is that revolution should be the means of the entire people, instead of something taken up by a single individual but of course very few would have the courage to openly oppose a totalitarian regime.
Everything really needs to be done in moderation but that presumes that the system would work in favour of the people in the first place. I admit I’m at a loss to find a polarised argument for that one. One man’s freedom fighter is another man’s terrorist or so said a rather charming bookseller in Soho anyway. I suppose it’s rather horrible anyway if both sides truly believe in what they’re doing because they will kill countless others due to their belief in their cause. Perhaps then the question should be how much is too much? Because it’s easy to ignore the deaths of faceless numbers in the name of a more personal cause.
I suspect that’s rather put me in a somewhat melancholy mood now so I’m afraid that I should end my letter here before I find myself rather more upset at the state of humanity than is entirely proper.
Kind regards,
Ludwig

P.S. Naoji says that V was slightly less in the wrong than the established government in that scenario but not by much.
