Because I’m not basing this on something that happened recently or anything. Also, my puntasticness strikes again somewhat with the title.
Possibly in keeping with this other double drabble.
An average conversation over tea...
Routine

Ludwig hums to himself as he pours the tea, strangely cheerful for no apparent reason. He doesn’t realise what he’s humming until Orpherus adds in the line about German wine and German song.
“It’s just that sort of-“ Naoji begins only to be interrupted by Eduard’s laughter.
“There’s nothing wrong with German wine.” Orpherus protests.
“Or German women?” Ludwig comments as he places a teacup in front of Naoji.
Orpherus pulls a face.
“The tea smells nice.” Eduard helps himself to a cake from the tray.
“Thank you, Eduard. I’m glad that somebody noticed.”
“Of course the tea is lovely but I was going to say-“ Naoji interjects.
“Lui, he’s talking about nationalism again. Make him stop.”
“You heard Orpherus.”
Naoji smiles exasperatedly. “Are we to ignore the fact that Orpherus is always talking about Hobbes then?”
“I do not! Sometimes… I talk about Thucydides too.”
“Sometimes, he even sleeps.”
“Ed!”
“Where’s Camus anyway?” Eduard glances round.
“I don’t think he’ll be joining us this afternoon.”
“Lui?”
“I believe that he has every intention of finishing up some reading in peace for a change.”
Hidden away in his room, Camus continues to read the exquisite fantasy of one von Sacher-Masoch.

The line that Orpherus references is “Deutscher Wein und deutscher Sang” where Ludwig comments referring to the preceding line of “Deutsche Frauen, deutsche Treue”. Ludwig is obviously humming Das Deutschlandlied.
Orpherus is also very much a classical realist from his choice of literature. ^_~
Camus is reading Leopold von Sacher-Masoch’s “Venus in Furs”. (Project Gutenberg: full text.)
Possibly in keeping with this other double drabble.

Date: 2006-05-21 01:08 pm (UTC)The first time I read Venus in Furs I despised it and then it occurred to me that the entire rigmarole at the end was probably quite justified. I suppose I’m rather suggesting that Camus identifies with Wanda really, which might even be a comment on his being objectified… goodness, that might almost need another drabble now that I think about it.
