A Few Troubles

There are few troubles ruling Hell as far as Lucifer is concerned, mostly little administrative details really. It’s pleasant enough wandering the halls of his palace, built on the designs of some sort of Mediterranean villa or perhaps the famed palaces of Crete.
There are few troubles certainly save perhaps for only one. Mephistopheles is a Duke of Hell, one of the first who followed Lucifer after the fall, one of his generals-elect if he should ever have need of them again. Which doesn’t explain why when they are together; Mephistopheles becomes a fool. In Hell itself he performs his duties admirably and also on the human plane but in private, in his Lord Lucifer’s presence all that melts away.

There are few troubles involved in the nonsense of human courting and Mephistopheles seems to snag his cape on every one. But Lucifer, Lord of Hell tells himself that he shouldn’t laugh, that he should accept it all graciously, so he hides his smile behind his books and his hands. One day the trumpets will sound and the final war will be fought but until then, he has the patience to wait for Mephistopheles to finally figure it all out.
