narcasse: Sebastian Flyte. Brideshead Revisited (2008) (phantasmagoric)

Two key problems that I’m experiencing in playing Bob of Arabia seem to be that a ‘quick’ go easily turns into a few hours and that the combat sections tend to mean that afterwards my left hand ceases up. The latter is due to the keyboard configuration I’ve chosen which works better for me than the default keyboard and mouse setup. Unfortunately, I went to bed last night with three fingers feeling numb and with my hand somewhat cramped and immobile while wondering if I’d ever be able to play the flute again. Though the latter was an exaggeration at least since C64 and MegaDrive injuries in the past have never stopped me before, even if it has been quite some time since I’ve had to stand with my hand against a radiator while mentally admitting that yes, I am actually in a little bit of pain. I did manage to escape what might have been some form of RSI earlier on in the game by playing certain combat sections cross-hands at least. And seeing as I’ve set the start of Saturnalia (Monday 17th) as a sort of deadline for completing the game I’m actually likely to be done with it by then and though I may be partially crippled for a day or two afterwards as a result; that’ll qualify as an honourable battle injury at least.

Also, Feburary 2005 Edge review of Bob of Arabia and for nostalgia value: Doriath.

I had that problem playing Final Fantasy, I think. "I'll get to the next save point and I'll stop.". Never happened. Though I was playing with a controller so the only thing sore on my hand was my thumb, and the tips of my fingers were cold. I hope that your hand feels better, at least, and holds up until you finish the game. ...I also hope that you don't wind up having to put it into a splint for the recovery period. Do take care of it though.

Part of the problem was that I played through half the game in my first sitting I suspect, though I limited myself to two hour sessions after that which is why it’s taken till today to finish it rather than two days prior. I won’t be playing any 3d platformers for a while anyway so that should give me a chance to recover... or get RSI with my other hand if I get back to Shadows of the Undrentide instead.

Yes...that may have had something to do with it. I see, I remember the fastest I ever finished a game was three weeks, and only then because I started planning the days I would play on a calender, including what boss to stop at.Dork am I, yes? Just kinda keep exercising your wrist, it should help. Mmm...I don't think that'd be such a good idea.

It wasn’t all that long a game; only about twelve hours of gameplay so that probably helped. Though I’m now waiting to get my hands on the sequel at the moment. I’m sure my hands will be working properly again by the time I do get it.

Ah, I see. That was the one they made a few years back with the darker looking character designs, right? And yes, I'm sure they will be.

It looks like the bastard lovechild of Quake and Mortal Kombat and the music really isn’t as good as Sands of Time’s. The game seems overtly combat orientated too but since I’ve rambled about that already now (http://imperial-artist.livejournal.com/549587.html), I probably shouldn’t just carry on repeating myself.

Usually everything goes to pot in sequels for some reason. Take DMC2 for example And I would agree with that because even the trailers that I watched back when it came out made it look that way.

And...uhm...looking at a few snapshots, I second the motion. o.o

The main issue with Warrior Within seems to be that Jordan Mechner wasn’t involved with it in any way which is a bit of a travesty since he invented the original character, though at least they kept the same composer for the better part of the soundtrack.

Well, that's not right in any count. ...but I guess at least they kept the same composer.
