Film in brief: X Men 3

Saw X Men 3 on Friday and only discovered on Sunday that there’s an extra scene after the credits. I quite liked it, though it could have been improved by Vinnie Jones not speaking at all and the Phoenix being slightly rubbish didn’t help things either really. It’s also likely that there’s going to be Professor X/Magneto slash out there due to this film though the phrase I used was ‘Ian McKellen porn’ at the time which rather shows where my priorities are with that one. I used to claim that my proviso for Ian McKellen was ‘if he was younger’ but I’ve actually had to admit to the ‘if he was younger’ part of it being a complete lie now.
As for the slash fic if there really is something out there titled ‘The Memoirs of Professor X’ which features the line somewhere ‘Bishop takes Queen’ with all it’s innuendo I’m really going to have to start checking that my cousin isn’t writing slash under a pseudonym because he’s the one who came up with that one.
And by the looks of it, there’s been a Magneto film announced for 2007 which will keep me entertained.
Overall, it was a decent enough film though Mystique losing her blue which was rather what she had going for her early on and then Rogue voluntarily giving up her powers was just disappointing. Also I stand by my then drunken assertion that Wolverine was bullshitting right at the end and actually offed Jean Grey because the Phoenix deal was really detrimental to her looks rather than because of any other reason. There were little stabby vials of the ‘mutant cure’ about all over the place and they even stuck Magneto with four for the overkill value so presumably there’d have been enough about to sort her out too.
Though having done some poking about, somewhere out there in Marvel-verse there’s an AU where Rogue and Magneto get together and have a child because he discovers a way to touch her without losing his powers or passing out. The Rogue in that universe is also presumably not hideously underaged.
Kelsey Grammer made an entertaining enough Beastman, Patrick Stewart was his usual suave self and… I suspect that I was just blinded by Ian McKellen being on screen beyond that really. Though, again possibly while drunk, I may have suggested at some point in discussion of the film afterwards that there really should be a Nightcrawler film which really would just boil down to his speaking German and occasionally hitting on Storm so that wouldn’t make much of a film anyway when I think about it.
In other news, combining Habanero Hot Sauce and Woh Hup Hot Chilli Sauce seems to solve the problems of Habanero Hot Sauce being hot but lacking flavour and the Hot Chilli Sauce tasting rather nice but lacking any real sort of heat to it.
And a New Scientist article: Spotting the quantum tracks of gravity waves.

Date: 2006-05-29 03:16 pm (UTC)I missed the comic one liners, the film was lacking those big time.
Indeed, the film turned out to be a WolverinexStorm flic!

Date: 2006-05-29 03:28 pm (UTC)It’s possibly that it seemed to be going with that idea that angst makes things more mature somehow. I don’t know how that works exactly but that might actually be another fandom related rant waiting to happen. Apparently there are going to be a couple of spin-offs anyway film-wise so it’ll probably be interesting to see what happens with those.
Then again there’s also going to be a new Transformers film too apparently so maybe this year’s theme is going to be filling comic book storylines with angst.
