Trinity Blood fic: Inception & a small rant

On another Trinity Blood note I’m beginning to wonder if one fandom perception that I keep arguing against stems from the fact that Caterina and siblings are all the illegitimate children of the previous pope. Because I keep coming across the notion that allegedly the Catholic Church has changed to the degree that clergy can marry which isn’t at all supported in canon. It’s not alluded to at all and the only evidence I can see that supposedly supports this is the fact that Gregorio XXX canonically fathered three children and recognised them enough that they could obtain positions of power within the Church. Which would be a fine argument if they were legitimate and in reality popes recognising illegitimate offspring and raising them to positions of power hadn’t happened before, Pope Alexander VI being the most glaring example.
Maybe it’s just me but has nobody heard the name Borgia anymore?


Also, today it's finally dawned on me to look up the spelling of Guderian’s name in my copy of Canon. And it turns out that it ought to be spelt ‘グデーリアン’ so at least I can change the appropriate tag which has read ‘牙’ for lack of inspiration for quite some time.

Thank you. And I guess I will have to find the original novels if I want any solid facts about Trinity Blood. I used a few booklets that came with the DVD box-set. Bad choice for reliable story info, especially if there are pages that are missing/repeated/complete BS.

The novels are, in my opinion, the best this fandom has to offer, but the three trinity-verse (manga, anime and novels) got some differences in plot, rendition of characters and storytelling, that one can easily consider them non-canonical to each other.
I fear I'm making things more confused than anything, but, in short, if you want to write a fic about the anime sticking to anime canon and you specify it, none can criticize that you miss some informations that are present only in the novels, and some part of the manga. Anyway, the novels are a very nice reading, you won't be disappointed =)

Well, I actually have two of the novels: R.A.M. 1 and 3. Couldn't find 2 for some reason. I agree they are the best to go by when writing fics (partly because they're the source for all the other adaptations) but I can't bring myself to read them often because the language is...well, if something should be put into English, it makes sense to have a few native speakers check over it. Even if Sunao Yoshida wasn't the best writer in Japanese, it doesn't excuse the obvious mistakes in the English translation. Unless he did make spelling mistakes in Japanese that the translator felt should be included in the English translation, in which case I will have to find someway to get the Japanese publications and improve my reading for said language.

I will take time here to insert a small apology to imperial_artist for wasting time in this entry by diverging off the original topic. Even if you don't have a problem with this, I feel it is as if I have entered your house to move furniture and ended up eating all your food instead. All the while leaving nasty crumbs everywhere to be vacuumed up.

Oh, if you are able to read japanese, all the best for you. The english version has some obvious mistake (I wanted to try the spanish one but it was so damn impossible to put my hands on it for a reasonable amount of money, and I gave up XD) and a low quality translation, but it's still better than nothing. ^^;

I refuse to believe that the English language novels are at all edited because they read like the genuinely enterprising attempt of a translator at being helpful. They were just being kind and trying to make things easier on the editor when they unscrambled some of the sentences, that’s all but alas the editor didn’t do anything at all thus we’re left with this rubbish.

Well, I guess it's time to do something to contribute to the TB fandom (and maybe even the English language). According to that ever so wise program 'The Simpsons' my country metes out punishment by way of a well-placed boot, which is a stereotype the editor should be scared that I live down to.
